Luxury fur lowered head high: no longer a patent for ladies

In recent days, as temperatures have dropped below freezing, people on the island city's streets can be seen rushing through the cold in their coats. You might think that fur clothing has become so popular—right? In fact, what was once considered a symbol of luxury is now accessible to a broader audience. From high-end shopping malls to small street shops, fur items are everywhere, with some priced as low as a few hundred dollars. Even young girls just starting their careers and even students are not shy about wearing them. A reporter recently investigated why fur is becoming more mainstream. The answer seems to lie in several factors. First, the global financial crisis has impacted international fur prices, causing them to drop significantly. Second, there's a growing market for fur in Daocheng Town, which holds great potential. Additionally, large-scale breeding of mink, foxes, and other animals used for fur has increased supply, leading to lower costs. Once a luxury item associated with wealthy women, fur has now evolved into a fashion statement for all ages. Mr. Hong, a distributor from Zhejiang Niunio, explained that over 400 types of fur are now available, with styles ranging from short jackets to Korean and Japanese-inspired designs. Techniques like jacquard, color mixing, and weaving have made fur more appealing to younger generations. Even those just starting their careers can now afford fur. Yang Xin, a fur shop owner, recalls that years ago, only a select few would dare to enter his store. However, in recent years, the situation has changed. More ordinary consumers are purchasing fur, and sales have grown tenfold in over a decade. At Oriental Fur Square, Manager Xu noticed that even young professionals are now buying fur, and some are purchasing multiple pieces. Fur prices have also dropped significantly. In Daocheng, furs range from a few hundred yuan to several hundred thousand, but many stores are offering steep discounts, sometimes as low as 50% or even less. Sales managers report that younger consumers are driving demand, with a noticeable increase in purchases among those aged 20 to 30. The price decline was partly due to the 2009 financial crisis, which affected major fur-consuming countries like Russia, Denmark, and Canada. International auctions saw sharp drops, prompting domestic manufacturers to adjust their pricing strategies. According to Yang, who has been in the industry for years, fur became much cheaper during this period, and the trend has continued. Competition in the fur market has also intensified. With more players entering the scene, discounts during peak seasons have become common. Stores offer 25%, 30%, or even 45% off, making fur more affordable than ever before. As a result, fur is no longer just a luxury—it’s now part of everyday fashion for many.
