For the grand finale of the Size 5 Project, we’re wrapping up with the Swingset Tunic + Skirt from Oliver + S—a collection I’ve been following for quite some time. This project has been a sentimental journey, revisiting the original four patterns designed for kids who are still small enough to fit into them. Starting with the Puppet Show Shorts, moving on to the Tea Party Dress and Bubble Dress, we've finally reached this delightful tunic and skirt combo.
I was thrilled when asked to contribute to this bittersweet series! As I reflected on the Swingset Tunic and Skirt, I realized how much I’ve always admired the versatility of Oliver + S patterns. These designs encourage creativity and personalization, allowing pieces to seamlessly mix and match. It’s one of the reasons why I’ve been a fan of their work for years.
For this project, I decided to make two tunics and a modified dress. Each piece turned out uniquely special:

Surprisingly, I had never attempted the skirt before, despite seeing countless inspiring versions in the Flickr community. One thing that struck me while browsing through the Flickr group was how few people paired the tunic and skirt together as an outfit. This speaks volumes about the adaptability of Oliver + S designs—allowing you to create distinct looks with each piece.
Take this outfit, for instance—it’s a perfect example of how stunning these two items can look together. The colors and styling make it absolutely breathtaking:

Sometimes, the fabric itself becomes the star of the show, especially when paired with a bold tunic design:

The skirts themselves are works of art, enhanced by thoughtful details like ribbon accents:

This tunic design even inspired my daughter after she saw it in Lotta’s coloring book pages:

Of course, there’s room for endless creativity with embroidery and appliqués:

The tunic and skirt offer endless opportunities for personal touches. After all, how many kids do you know rocking an Abraham Lincoln-inspired top?
