Was the fashion "activated" ancient buttercup silk - Beloved Beloved debut World Expo in Guangdong

On July 28, the Guangdong Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo made its grand debut with a stunning fashion show featuring 16 models dressed in "God Will" buttercup silk. The event exuded an elegant and stylish atmosphere infused with traditional oriental charm, setting the tone for Guangdong Week. As a cultural ambassador of Guangdong’s fashion heritage, "God Will" silkworm has successfully revived the ancient craft of buttercup silk through runway presentations, on-site exhibitions, and live demonstrations of its production process at the World Expo. Buttercup silk, a rare and eco-friendly fabric with over 500 years of history, is now making a bold return to the global fashion scene. Known as "incense cloud yarn," it was once a luxurious accessory in the 1920s and 1930s. Its unique production involves natural dyes derived from local plants and river mud, creating a soft yet sturdy texture. This environmentally friendly process, which must be completed before sunrise, reflects a true concept of "low-carbon beauty." Despite its historical significance, buttercup silk nearly disappeared in the last century. However, through the efforts of Liang Zi Fashion, the craft has been revived and reintroduced to modern fashion. The brand not only preserves the traditional techniques but also promotes sustainable development by protecting the ecological environment that supports this rare textile. In 2008, the dyeing and finishing techniques of buttercup silk were officially recognized as part of China's national intangible cultural heritage. Liang Zi Fashion has since collaborated with government agencies to establish a protection base in Shunde, Lunjiao, and develop industry standards for buttercup silk clothing. These initiatives have set a new benchmark for the preservation and promotion of traditional crafts. During the Guangdong Week at the Shanghai World Expo, visitors had the opportunity to witness the entire production process of buttercup silk, from the use of natural materials like plant extracts, river mud, and grass to the final creation of exquisite garments. The exhibition highlighted the fusion of ancient craftsmanship with contemporary fashion, offering a glimpse into the future of this timeless textile. "We want to keep the roots of our traditional culture, but the power to bring it forward comes from around the world," said Liang Zi. Through their efforts, buttercup silk is no longer just a relic of the past—it is now a symbol of cultural pride and sustainable innovation on the global stage.
